Situation

In July 2025, Typhoon Wipha — known locally as Typhoon Crising — brought heavy rain, flooding and landslides to northern Luzon, largest and most populous island in the Philippines. More than 3 million people were in the path of the powerful storm.

Our Response

Americares response team in the Philippines deployed to provide survivors with health services, hygiene kits, mental health and psychosocial support and water, sanitation and hygiene supplies. The team installed water purification systems in Alaminos City, supplying 315 families with clean drinking water; survivors in other cities received water purification tablets. Americares also provided mental health and psychosocial support to more than 500 children at two elementary schools in Alaminos City and in an evacuation center in Dagupan City.  In mid-August, an Americares mobile medical team provided health services to more than 700 typhoon survivors in Alaminos City and San Carlos City.

Members of the Americares Emergency Response Team participate in a pre-deployment briefing at Americares Philippines country office in Las Pinas City, Metro Manila, Philippines, Monday, July 28, 2025. The team is responding to severe flooding across Luzon Island caused by recent typhoons and worsening climate conditions. (Credit to Americares)
