Philippines Super Typhoon Ragasa/Nando

On Sept. 22, 2025, Super Typhoon Ragasa (locally known as Nando) swept across the Northern Philippines, with damaging 130 mph winds, storm surge and torrential rains that caused flooding and landslides. Northern Luzon was hit hard, with widespread power outages and flooding that damaged homes, roads and bridges and ruined crops. Authorities report 11 deaths from the storm and thousands of homes damaged or destroyed. Americares Philippines deployed an emergency response team to assess damage and provide immediate support, including hygiene kits, sanitation and health promotion sessions and psychological first aid.

In Taiwan, where Super Typhoon Ragasa triggered a catastrophic failure of the Matai’an Creek Barrier Lake in Hualien County, the disaster has claimed at least 14 lives, caused power and water outages and severely damaged roads and bridges. Americares is in contact with a local partner to assess needs.
